Row to Recovery

More people have been to space than have rowed the Atlantic.

The Atlantic Challenge – which came to Sir Chay Blyth whilst rowing the Atlantic Ocean in 1966 with John Ridgeway – is a 3,000 mile race from La Gomera to Antigua. For Sir Chay Blyth and John Ridgeway it was a 92 day battle against near starvation, 50 foot waves and hurricanes.

Most crossings on the Atlantic Ocean are made by cargo ships. Jon and Jordan, of Team Trident, will be making this journey in a seven-meter boat.

Jon and Jordan met over ten years ago as soldiers serving in the Parachute Regiment at just 19 years old. Jordan lost his leg in 2012 whilst serving in Afghanistan and since then has had to overcome extreme hardship to achieve what many would deem impossible.

Team Trident will be taking on the Atlantic Challenge, cramming everything they need to survive in their seven-meter boat. They will row the 3,000 miles around the clock for between 40 and 90 days. By doing so, they hope to raise £100,000 to generate funds and awareness for three charities; BLESMA, The Gurkha Welfare Trust’s Earthquake Appeal and Dreamflight.

The Row is considered to be one of the toughest endurance challenges on the planet. If that wasn’t enough of a battle, Jon and Jordan can expect up to 50 knot winds, waves the size of houses, 40 degree heat, sleep deprivation, hallucinations, sea sickness, mental and physical fatigue and will survive off military ration packs during their 3,000 mile journey.

If you would like to donate or sponsor Team Trident, visit their webpage.

We wish them the best of luck.
